Drug Rehab of Northern California

According to the author Vernon E. Johnson of the book “I’ll Quit Tomorrow”, Intervention is when you have a person with alcohol or any other drug addiction confronting reality.

Narconon rehab emphasizes this purpose, which is to bring addicts into the reality they are in, so they are able to receive it in a more bearable way.

The family does this; they are the one who will demand change instead of attacking the drinking problem. The confrontation is made as a big concern for their situation more than an accusation to their addiction since an intervention is just the introduction of someone’s recovery.

The idea here is to change the addict’s perspective to the point he or she accept the help. After this step, a drug rehabilitation program is completed until the person is able to stay drug-free.

I will describe the steps needed to carry out a family intervention to give you an idea on how it works. When you have a better understanding of it, you can find professional interventionists online who will hold the intervention with you. Remember that you can choose the final destination for the rehabilitation center and an interventionist can usually provide you information about treatment centers.

The following points are intended to be part of an intervention.

1. When someone is intervened, more than two meaningful people of the addicted person should be present.

Since the person has deteriorated relationships, the most meaningful person left at the present moment in their life should be present.

An important person for the intervened could be the employer or the immediate family; wife, mother, etc. with the exception of kids who should not be present at intervention meetings.

2. On the other hand, the intervention is planned along with the participants who may have difficulties in participating with this task.

If they have been affected by the addict, for example, the addict lied, offended, or embarrassed them in the past; they may be resistant to follow the instructions.

Therefore, a professional Interventionist must be leading the intervention and train each participant to understand the purpose of intervention.

3. Each participant will write a list of details of an incident related with the drinking problem. The data needs to give specifics and be free from irrelevant opinions or comments about alcohol drinking.

These would send the clear message to the alcoholic about the facts and consequences of his or her drinking instead of bias and ideas people have about the drinker.

4. The confrontation should not be judgmental, this means that the participants will show real concern and they will be honest when opening and expressing their love toward the drinker.

5. Anything that is mentioned about the drinking should include data that support the drinking problem only.

6. When people are drunk or high, they can’t see the way they look, specifying on their physical look and characteristics of their drunkenness can help them to be more aware of what condition they are when they drink and therefore analyze it as sober now.

7. Again, the purpose of the confrontation is that addicts raise their awareness toward the drinking consequences and get them to realize that they need to stop and get help.

8. Once a person has reached the point of accepting help, the family will give the real details about the treatment center such as location, schedule, program etc. As well as options they can agree about the center, which the family has prepared in advance to the meeting.

Unless the person has expressed some willingness to try rehab, firmly attitude should be maintained through this process. The addict may find excuses for not being able to go to the center, therefore the family needs to give an answer for each concern and offer a solution so going to treatment with no “worries” can be achieved.
